THE VENICE GHETTO – 500 YEARS OF LIFE
DIRECTED BY EMANUELA GIORDANO (2015)
2016 is the 500th anniversary of world’s first ghetto: the Ghetto of Venice. Imaginative docu-fiction techniques bring alive the paradoxical wonders of Europe’s oldest Jewish ghetto and its integration into Italian society, in this edifying and heartwarming film.
Lorenzo a Jewish teenager, of Venetian origin, born and raised in New York, leads us in this journey, guided by his aunt and two young Venetian cousins who offer him the stimulus to enter more and more into a world unknown to him. The history of the Venice ghetto offers us an opportunity to reflect on the story of an immigration and of a slow integration, an example of the enormous wealth that the exchange of diverse cultures can give us.
