This week we begin reading the second book of the Torah, Shemot, meaning ‘Names’. It is so called because we begin by reading through the names of Jacob’s offspring. The Greek name ‘Exodus’ however describes the main feature of the book’s contents – the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. Here, Rabbi Marcus takes a further look at a deeper meaning between the different Greek and Hebrew names.
