Rabbi Marcus – Nitzavim/Vayelech

This week we read two sidrot.  Nitzavim again forms part of Moshe’s farewell speech to the nation and opens with the words ‘You are standing before the Almighty’, encouraging people to remain faithful to G-d and the Torah and not to assimilate when among other nations in the land of Israel.

In the second sedra, Vayelech, Moshe imparts words of encouragement to his successor Joshua, saying ‘Chazak ve’ematz’, ‘be strong and courageous’, Moshe knowing that his passing may have a demoralising effect on the people of Israel.
