Purim Music Extravaganza
Following the reading of the Megilla by Yigal Wachmann at New West End Synagogue (St Petersburgh Place) in the presence of Rabbis Barry Lerer of Central and Rabbi Yossi Fachler of New West End, a concert was held featuring a choir comprising members of both synagogues. This marked the eighth year of a joint “Jewsical” between the two synagogues.
Before an audience of more than 180 people, the choir conducted by Marc Joseph, the Chazan of New West End, sang a melody of popular tunes, to which Jewish themed lyrics written by Mr Joseph had been included. The choir was ably accompanied by professional pianist Nathan Martin, and included professional singer Nathan Taylor, as well as Benjamin Till, Vincente Chavarria, and Michael Etherton of Mosaic Voices, and Steven Leas, the Chazan of Central. The organiser of the event was Felicity Toube KC of New West End Synagogue.
Rabbi Fachler said “This was a wonderful and joyous occasion created in the spirit of Purim, bringing much pleasure to the audience.”
Rabbi Lerer said “A thoroughly entertaining and festive occasion enjoyed by all.”
David Slovick, Chairman of New West End Synagogue added “In addition to being a thoroughly enjoyable evening, it was an excellent example of co-operation between the two synagogues, and we look forward to further joint events.” Further information can be found on the websites of Central Synagogue (www.centralsynagogue.org.uk) and New West End Synagogue (www.newwestend.org.uk/).
