The UK Community Shabbat at Home

Dear Central Synagogue member,

We are very excited to send this email to you.

It contains all the details for the first ever UK Community Shabbaton at Home.

This is a project of Mizrachi UK in partnership with the United Synagogue and it will allow tens of thousands of homes of all across the UK to join together both with their communities as well as nationally to celebrate Shabbat in our homes this Shabbat 3/4 April which is Shabbat Hagadol, the Shabbat before Pesach.

From Glasgow to Golders Green, from Belmont to Broughton Park, we will celebrate Shabbat together.

It all starts on Friday afternoon at 5:30pm with a concert especially for the UK with Yaakov Shwekey.

This will be followed by a special address from the government when we hope the Prime Minister Boris Johnson (if he is well enough) will address us.

After that, we will be honoured to have Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis speak to us and lead us in prayers for the sick, followed by Kabbalat Shabbat online from the South Hampstead community led by Rabbis Shlomo and Eli Levin prior to the start of Shabbat.

This can all be accessed clicking here via the United Synagogue Facebook page or YouTube channel (no sign in or registration needed).

And then it is over to you – and this is the secret of the Shabbaton at Home!

Please click and print the attachments in the links below. It is the full schedule for the wonderful Community Shabbaton at home as well as all the materials you will need for an inspiring 25 hours!

It contains stories, Divrei Torah, ideas, quizzes, games and messages for and from your community. We have given it to you in either an A4 version by clicking here  or an A5 version by clicking here.

And then after Shabbat at 9pm we will be joining Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and Chazan Jonny Turgel for a memorable Havdalah service followed by a Shabbat Hagadol d’rasha by Rabbi Daniel Roselaar of the Alei Tzion community.

Again, click on these hyperlinks to watch on Facebook or on YouTube (these are different to the Friday links).

Even though we are all separated through being at home, let us connect together through the wonderful opportunity of a UK Community Shabbaton at Home!

Enjoy and Shabbat Shalom!
