On Sunday 26th November Central Synagogue together with the Spiro Ark were delighted to host 92 year old actress Thelma Ruby, who performed her one-woman show THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT in which she told stories of her long life and sang songs from shows she has been in. The audience members were in awe of Thelma’s amazing energy and talent throughout the 90 minute show.
Born to a Jewish family in Leeds and after being evacuated to New York during the war, she has spent the rest of her life in the theatre.
This year she has been honoured with an Oldie of the Year award and been included in the Women of the Year. She plays Alice in the new ITV series with Jack Dee called BAD MOVE and, among many other roles, has previously starred as Golde opposite Topol in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’.
Proceeds were collected for the Israel Guide Dog Centre for the Blind.
