Story and song time with Raquel with a journey back to Spain

This Sephardi tale, “The Key from Spain” by Debbie Levy, traces the roots of the famous Ladino singer Flory Jagoda.

Hailing from the Sephardi tradition myself, this story did resonate with me… The journey of the Mendoza family is well documented and we are fortunate to have a very extensive family tree tracking the family’s movements from Spain, Portugal and Amsterdam to London. I thought I’d give you a taste of what we sing in our home to mark the end of our meal and to give thanks to G-d: Bendigamos. (Although my children are not singing along with me in this recording, they do join in around the Shabbat table, so another generation picks up the precious tradition!)
