Rabbi Marcus MBE – Bamidbar
This week we begin reading the fourth book of the Torah – Bamidbar – meaning “in the desert”.
This Sidra reports in detail the census of all adult males fit for military duty. This census was taken in the second year after the exodus from Egypt. Our Sidra also records the manner in which our ancestors were organised during their years of wandering. Moshe appointed 12 heads of tribes as representatives in order to facilitate the census and ensure good order.
