Kiddush Talks @ Central – Melanie Phillips Press Release

Melanie Phillips, Journalist and Broadcaster, was the latest Kiddush Talk speaker at Central Synagogue on Shabbat 11th February 2023. Her subject was “One People, Two Worlds, the challenges for Jews in Israel and the diaspora.”

Together with a question-and-answer session she covered topics such as the new Israeli Government under Benjamin Netanyahu, the changing face of the Israeli population, the growth of and reasons for anti-semitism, the attitude of the Jewish community in the USA towards the State of Israel, the leadership of the Jewish community in the UK and the proposed Holocaust memorial.  There were at least 100 attendees present.

Rabbi Lerer, Rabbi of Central Synagogue, said “It was a privilege to have Melanie with us, who is a regular visitor to our community. Her address covered a wide-ranging set of topical topics and provoked much interest and many questions from the audience.”

Mervyn Druian, Chairman of Central Synagogue added “It was an excellent event with a full crowd, and we were delighted to have such a distinguished journalist address us.”
