Essai Enai, a song of hope for these strange times composed by Cantor Steven Leas

Being in quarantine and ill for a number of weeks, I decided to compose and record a song for these frightening times. The lyrics are from Psalm 121 Essai Enai, and I’ve tried to capture the seriousness and cry for help in this composition.

The translation is:

A Song of Ascents. I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: from where shall my help come? My help comes from God, who made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; He that keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He that keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. God is your keeper; God is your shade upon your right hand. The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. God will keep you from all evil; He will keep your soul. God will guard your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and for ever.
