AJEX Talk at Central Synagogue

In advance of next week’s AJEX Annual Remembrance Parade and Ceremony, Central Synagogue hosted renowned AJEX historian Paula Kitching and Lance Corporal Dan Levy at their service on Saturday, 12 November.

Talking after the service, Paula Kitching spoke about the history and purpose of AJEX and the AJEX march and Dan Levy focused on the current Jewish membership of the British Armed Forces and the Jewish fatalities suffered in the service of this country. They made an excellent combination, enjoyed and appreciated by all those present.

Rabbi Barry Lerer of Central Synagogue said: “It was important for the community to hear the immeasurable sacrifice Jewish servicemen have made to the country throughout the years.”

Mervyn Druian, Chairman of Central Synagogue, commented: “Both Paula Kitching and Dan Levy reminded our members at Central Synagogue how fortunate the Jewish Community in the UK is by having AJEX. Kol Hakavod to both speakers.”

Jonathan Metliss, Board member at Central and active AJEX supporter who organised the talk, added: “This was yet another example of the commitment to AJEX of Central Synagogue which will be strongly represented by its members at next week’s Annual Remembrance Parade and Ceremony.”

The talk was part of the series of Kiddish Talks held every Shabbat at Central Synagogue in Great Portland Street.

On 6 November, David Dein, former Vice Chairman of Arsenal FC and the Football Association, was the latest guest speaker in the ‘Talks of Interest’ series, another active and successful initiative of Central Synagogue.
