Above and Beyond Film Night

On Thursday 29 June, Central Synagogue held a special viewing of Nancy Spielberg’s wonderful film “ Above and Beyond” , raising funds for charity Yad Olim.

Released in 2014, this informative documentary tells the remarkable story of the foundation of the Israeli Air Force . It combines outstanding footage together with fascinating interviews . It also provides an insight into the events leading up to the foundation of the State of Israel , especially poignant as we have just celebrated Israel’s 75th anniversary

To an audience of some 50 members  and guests fed with refreshments and cinema type snacks Central Council member Harold Schogger, whose initiative this was, introduced the film and Jonathan Metliss , Council member and Jewish Weekly Chairman, chaired and lead a Q and A session and discussion on the film and its underlying message towards the end of the evening.

Rabbi Barry Lerer of Central Synagogue said “ this was a wonderful and inspirational film illustrating the drive and energy and risks taken in establishing the State of Israel , an example to us all “

Nancy Spielberg said “ Incredible , Incredible . I’m so happy that this worked out and that you are creating this mitzvah on top of it “
