Today’s Torah reading is the second of three sidrot that inform us of the life and experiences of our forefather Avraham.
Rabbi Marcus – Vayishlach
Vayishlach means ‘and he sent’, referring to the messengers that Yaakov sent ahead of him to Israel to meet his brother Esav before his planned return to the land of Israel. Yaakov was concerned about their impending reunion due to the bad terms they had parted on. We also read about the famous wrestling episode between Yaakov and the angel after which G-d famously changes Yaakov’s name to Yisrael.
