Central Synagogue

Mrs Nicola Burns - Vice-Chair

I started coming to the Central Synagogue when I was a child. It was, as it is now, a lovely place to be. I was married in the Shul and my two teenage daughters have virtually grown up in it.

My involvement started when I became Youth Leader, and continued, with being a member of both the Ladies Guild and Board of Management. I am now delighted to be Vice Chairman and very much enjoy the varied work this position involves and the contribution it allows me to make.

Apart from taking the Children's service, I have been involved with others, in showing non-Jewish school groups around the shul. This has been very rewarding. Their letters of thanks show how useful for the future these inter-faith visits are. Recently I have introduced a series of lunchtime lectures which I hope will prove very popular in the months ahead.

Since I took over the editorship of the magazine I have learnt a great deal more about the interesting and engaging community that contributes to it. We are a real family here at Central - people of all ages mixing together and enjoying each others company.
