Ze’ev’s Place – Shapiro and I – Sunday 21st June

The Central Synagogue together with Spiro Ark present a documentary evening:

Shapiro and I (2014)

Shapira I Ze'ev's Place 21 June copy (2)

70 years before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jerusalem antiques dealer Moses Shapira traveled to London with what he hoped to present to the British Museum as the original version of the Book of Deuteronomy.

But the assessment that the scrolls were fake, devastated him and Moses Shapira put an end to his life. For more than 30 years filmmaker Yoram Sabo has been obsessed with clearing Shapira’s name and finding out the fate of the scrolls.

The labyrinth of this baffling affair makes for a fascinating detective documentary.
