Rabbi Marcus – Emor

This week’s Sidra is made up of 4 Chapters covering various subjects. The first two Chapters focus on the Cohanim including the rules of mourning if a death occurs in their families, whom they are permitted to marry and what would disqualify a Cohen from serving in the Sanctuary. The third Chapter contains ‘ Parshat HAMOADIM’ – the entire cycle of Holydays and Festivals. The fourth Chapter lists some of the other duties of the Cohanim – keeping the Sanctuary lamp alight at all times and placing the 12 challot on the Sanctuary Table which where freshly baked before each Shabbat.
