Nigel Gee is one of the Honorary Officers at the Central Synagogue. The son of the designer and artist the late Cecil Gee, Nigel brings business experience, energy and enthusiasm to his role at the Central Synagogue. Family is of great importance to Nigel, whose two brothers are also members of the Synagogue.
“I am the third son of the late Cecil Gee who was a talented designer and artist. Together with his wife, the late Anne Gee, he built the family business into a successful national retail chain.
“My two older brothers are Michael and Rowland. All three of us are members of Central. We share a love of family, good humour, caring for others, smiling faces, music, art, skiing, cars, cheese cake (in small portions) and the Arsenal football club.
“I am a solicitor, a retailer from birth, a long-time supporter of, and now a Vice-chairman of the educational charity British ORT. I sing bass in the London Jewish Male Choir and at Hampstead Garden Opera. I also sing for as long as they will let me at family get-togethers and at Purim parties at the Synagogue. I know between half and two-thirds of the words of many songs.
“UntiI 2000 I travelled the world as Managing Director of the Cecil Gee division of Moss Bros Group. I resigned from Moss Bros Group in 2000 to manage my own property business and shortly after I also became a founding director of a new corporate concierge business, run by members of the next generation of the Gee family.
“The warm and friendly community at Central is a living example of many of the qualities I aspire to. I am happy to continue serving the Synagogue. I hope in the future to see new generations of happy and caring leaders.”
